We were invited to explore ideas to improve the rear rooms in a sandstone semi detached house located in Cambuslang. The rear part of the house is elevated with impressive views to the North across the city of Glasgow, but contained a cold / unused conservatory in poor condition. The adjacent kitchen only had a small window with a low ceiling making it difficult to appreciate those views from inside the house.
Our proposal was to fully remove the conservatory and partially remove the upper part of the kitchen rear wall. A new extension incorporating a slim steel beam and post along the rear wall was inserted to allow a full length panoramic window to be fitted. A further section of internal wall was removed behind the kitchen to connect the lounge area.
The resulting open plan space is now warm, flooded with light and takes full advantage of the extended views.
